het Licht op Natuur / Licht op Landschap project
Het wordt steeds lichter 's nachts. Bijna iedereen in Europa en de VS woont op een plek die als 'lichtvervuild' kan worden aangemerkt: daar is is ons eigen licht altijd sterker dan het licht van de de maan en de sterren. Elk jaar neemt dat gebied met twee procent toe, terwijl de al lichte plaatsen nog lichter worden.
Nachtelijk kunstlicht heeft een groot effect op onze natuur. Samen met een boel andere organisaties onderzoekt het Nederlands Instituut voor Ecologie deze effecten in het Licht op Natuur en Licht op Landschap project. Een belangrijk onderdeel van deze studies is het meten van effecten van experimentele verlichting op plaatsen die voorheen donker waren. Omdat we tegenwoordig de kleursamenstelling van licht makkelijk kunnen veranderen, en dat mogelijk schadelijke effecten van licht kan beperken, onderzoeken we niet alleen de gevolgen van wit licht, maar ook van rood en groen licht op planten en dieren. We kijken daarbij naar zoveel mogelijk soortgroepen: planten, nachtvlinders, vleermuizen, muizen, marterachtigen en andere zoogdieren, vogels en amfibieën.
